The distribution of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant began on Monday which could see as many as 10 million grant recipients visiting post office branches around the country to collect their money.
The South African Post Office (SAPO) have reminded SRD grant recipients to wait for an SMS before visiting the post office to collect their grants.
Only once you receive an SMS from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) then you can collect your grant. If you have not received an SMS, you may be turned away from the post office.
The same goes for SRD grant recipients collecting their grants from PicknPay and Boxer stores.
If you chose the cash send payment method or chose to have the money paid into your banking account you cannot collect your SRD grant at the post office.
Sassa began processing payments of the R350 SRD grant on Monday, 10 January 2022. This is due to the first week of a new month being reserved for paying other social support grants. These grants include the child support grant, older persons grant and the disability grant.
Sassa has also informed grant applicants who applied for reconsideration that they are currently experiencing a delay in the reconsideration process.
“Sassa is working tirelessly to ensure that this matter is resolved as soon as possible, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration caused by the delay, but assure everyone that every reconsideration request will be attended to” said acting Sassa CEO Dianne Dunkerley.
