Parents in Gauteng have a limited amount of time to submit their online Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications for 2024. This marks phase 2 of the online admissions process.
The Gauteng Department of Basic Education is encouraging parents to continue making use of its online admission system and avoid visiting district offices.
Mosuwe also points out that the department expected 180 000 applications for its Phase Online admissions primarily focused on internal enrollments. However, 150 000 applications have so far been processed and 30 000 parents are yet to submit their online applications.
The Head of the Department further stated that they have made provisions for those who may not have internet access by opening forty-five walk-in centers throughout all the district offices in the province.
He also stated that the current regulation for admissions avails five different options on how people can apply. The first option is that can use their home, the second is to use a work address and the third is to make use of a sibling option that is made available.
The remaining two categories are that applicants should ensure that they are located within a 30-kilometer radius of the school of their choice or outside the 30-kilometer radius.

The department will then consider the applicant’s first choice and proceed to the next options if the first one cannot be made available. Applicants have also been advised to notify the MEC should they experience any problems with their applications.
Parents have also been urged to upload all outstanding documents as this may cause delays in the processing of their applications.
