The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has urged all recipients with Sassa/Post bank cards that expire on 31 March 2023 to visit their nearest post office branch to collect their new cards.
Beneficiaries of the Older Persons and Disability grant can make the exchange on Mondays and Tuesdays during the week.
Recipients of the Child Support grant as well as other social grants will be able to swap their Sassa gold cards from Wednesdays to Saturdays. Beneficiaries are also reminded to bring a copy of their ID and expired Sassa/SAPO.
Post Office branch staff will then assist grant recipients to activate their new cards and select a new PIN. The cards will operate immediately to make withdrawals or any other type of transactions.
Sassa has also pointed out that no grant recipients will be assisted on behalf of others. This is because Post Office branch staff will use fingerprint verification to issue the beneficiary with a new SASSA/Postbank Gold Card
Grant recipients who have lost or misplaced their Sassa/Postbank card expiring in March are also required to visit their nearby Post Office branch to collect their new Sassa/Postbank gold cards.
Sassa has further stated that the dates and processes for cards expiring in the coming months will be announced soon.
The Sassa Gold Card can be used to collect monthly social grant payments either in Postbank, or ATMs in retail outlets such as Shoprite Checkers, U-save, Pick n Pay and Boxer.
For the month of April, Sassa plans to make social grant payments on the dates listed below.
Grant Payment Schedule For April
- The Older Persons Grant: 3 April
- Disability Grant: 4 April
- Child Support Grant (and all other grants): 5 April
It is also worth noting that these dates do not apply to the R350 grant, as that grant has no specific payment dates. Payments are only made once Sassa processes applications and payments.
