She became a member of Parliament in 2004 and has served on the Correctional Services Portfolio Committee; Joint Budget Portfolio Committee; HousingPortfolio Committee; Auditor General and Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as a Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police from 2009 to 2012.
She was an Ex Officio Member of African National Congress ANC) Regional Executive Committee and she had served on the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) Regional Executive Committee as Ex Officio Member and ANC Deputy Regional Secretary and Regional Secretary for Gert Sibande Region.
She has served as a whip for ANC from 2007 to 2009 and has been the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of South Africa from 12 June 2012.
