Can I renew my car licence online in Western Cape?

Yes, here is how to pay and renew your vehicle license online:

Required documents:

  • your identity document (ID)
  • proof of residential address e.g. utility account. If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit.
  • if you stay at an informal settlement, you must bring a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councillor confirming your residential address
    motor vehicle licence renewal notice (MVL2). If you did not receive a renewal notice, complete form ALV (Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle)

The e-Services application does not fully support mobile phone or tablet access – please use your laptop or desktop instead.

Step 1: You will need to register as a user on the e-Services portal.

Step 2: Go to the vehicle licensing renewal option and fill in the relevant information to obtain the City’s banking details and your specific deposit reference number. You will thereafter be sent the City’s banking details and your specific deposit reference number via email.

Step 3: Using these banking details, and your specific deposit reference number, you can make an EFT payment directly from your bank’s website.

Applications for vehicle license renewals should be made a month prior to the expiry date.
