Nsfas 2023 Funding Decisions Now Being Released

Nsfas 2023 Funding Decisions Now Being Released. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme received more than 1.6 million applications from students in 2023. Applicants are now waiting for feedback from bursaries. Of the 1.6 million funding applications for 2023, at least 613 000 have been provisionally approved and funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

Nsfas 2023 Funding Decisions Now Being Released

According to Ernest Khosa, chairperson of the Nsfas board, out of the 338,320 applicants who have been provisionally accepted, 275,589 are new. Buti Manamela, deputy minister for Higher Education, revealed that Sassa beneficiaries entering universities and vocational schools for the first time, have received instant funding from Nsfas. The household income of non-Sassa students must be documented. The Scheme announced the following in a statement:

“The funding list for Non-Sassa applicants and returning students will be released by institutions by 6 February 2023”.

As per the NSFAS qualifying funding criteria, the funding list includes names of students who will not be required to pay a registration fee for 2023. NSFAS-funded students will now be able to register for qualified qualifications if their name appears on the funded list.

Nsfas Rejected Applications

A total of 161,139 applications were rejected for not meeting funding criteria, and as of 3 February 2023, they are permitted to appeal.

Non-Sassa applicants and returning students must verify their financial and academic eligibility with third parties in order to confirm funding.

South African Revenue Services confirms household income through the Scheme, and the Department of Home Affairs confirms applicants’ identity and parental information. It has been confirmed that Nsfas is able to make real-time funding decisions since it has improved its systems to allow it to do so.
