However, some may think they have submitted their applications, only to have missed a few steps in the process.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has already received thousands of applications from students seeking to have their tertiary study funds covered with only a few months left before the application deadline.

However, it appears that not all applicants are thoroughly following the entire application process step by step. This could have the unfortunate result of their applications not being processed.

According to their recent social media post, the bursary scheme has found that some of them only create a myNSFAS account and are under the impression that they have completed the application process after doing so. NSFAS has advised against this.

Hey applicants, please note that creating a myNSFAS account does not mean you have applied for funding. After creating an account, you need to log in to your myNSFAS account using your ID number and password, click on the apply now button, and follow the steps to apply

As stated above, applicants must first create a myNSFAS account. Those who already have an existing myNSFAS account can simply log in and submit their application.

How To Apply For NSFAS

  1. Login into your myNSFAS account and click on the apply tab.
  2. Answer the questions on the screen
  3. Upload the required support documents then click on ‘Submit’

Your application reference number will appear on the screen. The reference number will also be sent to your cellphone number and email address.

This past week NSFAS confirmed that as of September 28, 2022, the bursary scheme has received more than 230 000 applications for the 2023 academic year.

NSFAS added that the application system provides real-time funding decisions for Sassa beneficiaries and to date, 52508 Sassa beneficiaries have already had their 2023 funding confirmed. Applications are due to close on Tuesday 31 January 2023.
