SUN Student Funding: Bursaries 2021

Below are some bursaries available for SUN students:

Department of Labour Bursaries: Students with disabilities qualify for (apart from any other bursaries) for bursaries from the Department of Labour and are required to apply directly at the Department for these bursaries.

​ Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme: The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme to promote teaching as a profession. Bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a teaching qualification in an area of national priority. Recipients of the bursary must apply online for the bursary in every year. The recipient must also complete the placement information as required in every year. Read more at https://www.eservices.gov.za/ The bursary is offered annually via an application process. The award amount of is R112 750 for 2020 The amount includes tuition fees, university residence or private accommodation costs, study/learning material, meals/living allowances as well as teaching practice allowance where applicable all subject to the total of 112 750.

​ISFAP Funding​: The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) was established as a funding model to sustainably cater for the higher education costs of South Africa’s poor and ‘missing middle’ students.

Criteria for eligibility includes:
•    Studying towards a degree for the first time in 2021.
•    Annual family income of between R0 and R600 000.
•    Conditional acceptance at SU for one of the following programmes which may be funded at SU in 2021: BEng, BAcc, BAccLLB, BCom Management Sciences (only certain focus areas), BCom Mathematical Sciences (only certain focus areas), BSc in Food Sciences, BSc in Earth Science and MBChB.

How do I apply?

Prospective students who are provisionally admitted to one of their 3 program choices can apply online​ for bursaries and loans.

Once you have identified possible bursaries or loans to apply for, you can apply online for the following from 4 May 2020​:

SU Financial Aid: my.sun.ac.za (log in with your student number and pas​sword).

NSFAS Funding: ​www.nsfas.org.za (provisionally open on 1 August 2020)

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please ensure that an application for financial assistance is submitted at both Stellenbosch University and NSFAS.
