Admission to universities is usually subject to strict deadlines which allows them enough time to review all the applications and select the best candidates. This is especially useful for programs that receive more applications than the university can accommodate.

UNIVERSITIES THAT ACCEPT LATE APPLICATIONS FOR 2023
We understand how difficult it is to keep track of all the various application deadlines for the various Universities, so we have compiled a list of all the University application dates in South Africa.
We have included application opening dates, application closing dates, and late application dates. By planning time for your university application, you will have more time to prepare all the documents and even look into any available bursaries or the NSFAS application.
1. CAPE PENINSULA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (CPUT)
From Wednesday, October 27, 2023, to Monday, November 8, 2023, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) accepts late applications for the class of 2023.
It will only apply to study programs with open seats. To be eligible for CPUT late applications, you must meet the following requirements:
- Exhausted 1 or 2 out of your 3 application choices submitted during the normal application period
- Be a transferring student from another university
- Be a CPUT student who took a gap year in your studies
- Applying for Advanced Diploma Studies, M Tech/Master Course-based programs, or Post-GraduatePost-Graduate Diploma programs
2. MANGOSUTHU UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (MUT)
The Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) makes use of the Central Applications Office (CAO) for its application process. It’s a simpler way to apply for many programs by using one application form and paying a single application fee.
You simply click on ‘apply’, then ‘apply now, and follow the rest of the application process. The university does not specify whether it accepts late applications for 2023 but mentions a late application fee if you submit after the original deadline.

3. NELSON MANDELA METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY (NMMU)
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) normally considers late applications in the first week of January. This is only applicable when spaces in specific programs remain available.

4. UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG (UJ)
The Mobi Late Enquiry System is a late application system used by the University of Johannesburg (UJ). You can use it to see if UJ still has space available in specific programs.
The system is open from mid-February to the end of February, but it may close earlier depending on the volume and quality of late application inquiries received by the university.
There will be no walk-ins for 2023 UJ late application inquiries.
5. UNIVERSITY OF KWAZULU-NATAL (UKZN)
If there are available spaces in certain programs, the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) usually accepts late applications. You must pay an R400 late fee and meet all entrance requirements.

6. UNIVERSITY OF FORT HARE (UFH) LATE APPLICATION
From November 1 to November 30, 2023, the University of Fort Hare (UFH) will accept late applications for the class of 2023. All you have to do is pay an R250 late fee, meet all the minimum requirements, and attach all relevant documents to your applications.

7. UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA (UP)
The University of Pretoria (UP) extends its online application deadlines for BA study programs with spaces remaining after the original deadline. This is only when UP has not met its institutional goals.

8. UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE (UWC)
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has extended the deadline for some of its programs until October 29, 2023. After that, it will not accept any late applications for 2023. So, prepare all of your documents and apply as soon as possible.
