The Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has three types of law degrees for the prospective undergraduate to choose from. The following are the requirements that a student would need to meet to be granted admission to each of these qualifications.
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is one of the top 10 universities in South Africa, and like most other public universities, they also offer multiple undergraduate law qualifications.
These law qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Law (BA Law), a Bachelor of Commerce in Law (BCom Law), and an LLB (Bachelor of Law).
The BA option at UJ is set to equip the student to enter careers in Legal Advisory and Public Administration, the BCom option is set to equip the student to enter careers in Legal Advisory and other careers in the commercial sphere, and the LLB option is set to equip the student to be able to become an Advocate, Attorney, State Advocate, Legal Advisor, Magistrate, Public Prosecutor, and so on.
The following are the requirements needed upon the completion of matric to be able to be admitted to each of the three undergraduate qualifications:
BA Law (3 years) –
- The student would need to have a minimum APS score of 31 with Pure Mathematics or 32 with Mathematics Literacy
- A final mark of at least 60% (5) for the English
- A final mark of at least 50% (4) for an Additional Home Language
- A final mark of at least 40% (3) for Pure Mathematics/ 50% (4) for Mathematics Literacy
BCom (3 years) –
- The student would need to have a minimum APS score of 31 with Pure Mathematics ONLY (Mathematics Literacy is not considered for this qualification)
- A final mark of at least 60% (5) for the English
- A final mark of at least 50% (4) for an Additional Home Language
- A final mark of at least 50% (4) for Pure Mathematics
LLB (4 years) –
- The student would need to have a minimum APS score of 31 with Pure Mathematics or 32 with Mathematics Literacy
- A final mark of at least 60% (5) for the English
- A final mark of at least 50% (4) for an Additional Home Language
- A final mark of at least 40% (3) for Pure Mathematics/50% (4) for Mathematics Literacy
