How To Check If Your 2022 NSFAS Application is Approved

Many prospective students in South Africa are unable to register at a tertiary institution for the 2023 academic year to pursue their dream qualification because they can’t afford the costs associated with tertiary education. This is why many students make use of scholarships and bursaries such as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary.

NSFAS is a government bursary which funds disadvantaged South African students who are studying at public universities and TVET colleges.

For the 2022 academic year, NSFAS allocated a budget of R43 billion towards tuition fees, food, travelling allowance and study material.

A total of 985 672 applications were received with approximately 140 636 applications unsuccessful.

Around 287 217 applicants received instant approvals as those in the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) category often receive automatic qualification for funding, Nzimande said.

Many Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges have commenced the 2023 academic year and some students who have applied for NSFAS still do not know the outcome of their application. This could prevent many of them from registering for the current academic year.
